FROM A SMALL FISHERY BUSINESS TO A GLOBAL COMPANY

Sirena A/S was founded in 1985 by the current owners, Peter Buhl and Steen Riber. Thanks to their years of experience from the fishing industry - in actual fishery as well as in global sales and marketing - the company has been very successful, growing rapidly. Initially, sales came from a relatively small number of landings from long-line vessels, primarily delivered to the Far East. Today though, a fleet of modern factory trawlers supplies of all sorts of frozen fish and seafood to customers all over the world.

In June 1998, Sirena was proud to receive the King Frederik IX Award for Excellence in Export. The award is presented once a year to a company in recognition of export efforts in difficult markets, as well as for a steady increase in exports over a three year period with the potential for continued prosperity and success. The award was presented by His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark.

In 2001, Sirena acquired facilities in Esbjerg harbour which were converted into a modern cold store as well as a state-of-the-art production facility for reprocessing and packing, etc.

Sirena has also opened sales offices in its various markets such as Russia, China and Vietnam.

In 2008, the newest company in the Group, Whitecap Seafood International, was founded as marketer of the famous and well known Luxury Brand. With many years of experience of leadership in the Canadian seafood industry, Whitecap is already a serious player in the North-American market.
